The Hi-Ho Lounge on St. Claude in New Orleans. Legendary. Scruffy. Good.
Next time you’re in NOLA, get out of the French Quarter. Hit Frenchmen Street, for sure, and then keep going. Get thee over to St. Claude and see what’s shakin’ at the Hi-Ho. Might be punk. Might be bluegrass. Might be burlesque. Might be a party to watch “Game of Thrones” and “Treme” on the big screen. Whatever. Go with it.
This is the last painting from my latest New Orleans series. Just finished it yesterday. The front shows the legendary lounge from across St. Claude. The reverse is a collage of paper ephemera, including handbills, a Hi-Ho music calendar, some beer labels, etc. You can buy it from my store, if you’d like. OR…
If you’d like the chance to win a free print from this New Orleans art series, just leave a comment about your favorite NOLA memory. I’m choosing a winner tomorrow (happy Mardi Gras, people!).
Y’all be good!
John
Would you like to win a free New Orleans print? Just leave a comment below with your favorite memory of that fair city. Leave it on any of these NOLA series blog posts. On Mardi Gras (Feb. 12) I’ll pick one and some lucky cuss will get a free 8.5″ by 11″ print.
We love New Orleans — we lived there for three months in 2011, and we’re headed back in April. I’m doing daily blog posts sharing my New Orleans-themed art, celebrating what some are calling Super Gras: the Super Bowl was Sunday Feb. 3, in the middle of carnival season leading up to Mardi Gras on Feb. 12.
