Ah, the Jax Brewery… we hardly knew ye. Well, I didn’t. New Orleanians did. This French Quarter behemoth was the local brewer for decades, but closed in the 1970s. Now it’s a mall of some sort, but still a formidable structure. So I painted it. And this week, the ESPN crew doing their Super Bowl broadcasting from out front.
Here’s a 16″ by 20″ version of the great brewery, in acrylic on canvas. And the bonus? The reverse is a collage of vintage Jax Beer labels, and a little bit on the history about the place, too.

We love New Orleans — we lived there for three months in 2011, and we’re headed back in April. I’m doing daily blog posts sharing my New Orleans-themed art, celebrating what some are calling Super Gras: the Super Bowl this Sunday, in the middle of carnival season leading up to Mardi Gras Feb. 12.
