Here we are folks: the last gasp of summer. Unless of course you count all the weeks of the season that follow Labor Day, but who am I to complicate matters with things like “facts” and “undeniable cosmological realities.” Summer ends on Tuesday at 12:01 a.m., dammit.
That said (and my apologies for the swears), you have about two minutes to enjoy some summer bars. Get to it. Gather ye rose-buds while ye may! Go to a place that’s great in the summer and less-so in the winter. Or maybe just a place that’s completely different from season to season. Go and enjoy this season. Summer.
I’m writing this from and undisclosed location in the wilds of New York’s lovely Long Island—a hamlet on the south shore—where I’ve been exploring summer bars along the Great South Bay, on Fire Island, in the Hamptons, and beyond. I plan to draw some of these places and make prints of them. I’m open to suggestions and taking requests.
Summer bars: what are your favorites? Near the beach, at the marina, on the river, up north, in the woods, by the lake, wherever. Where are your favorite joints to chill out when it’s warm out? Where will you go to enjoy a tasty, refreshing beverage this holiday weekend? Leave a comment below, let me know, and I just might celebrate your summer place with my insouciantly unsteady inking.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the tail of summer! (Even if you actually have three whole weeks of summer left before you. But who’s counting.)
