My friends Eric Rewitzer and Annie Galvin have a studio — 3 Fish Studios — in San Francisco, waaaaay, way-way out by the beach, in what is called the “Sunset District,” sort of the way the Vikings called a barely-inhabitable hunk of ice-rock “Greenland:” to trick people into moving out there. Well, SF developers had all these post-war houses to fill, you see, and the fog out there is as thick as sea poop, and it’s chilly, man, and the name “Sunset” implied a certain amber-hued splendor, that is actually….
OKAY, GET TO THE POINT!
Eric and Annie make lino-cut prints and sweet pop paintings respectively, and they’re trucking their wares from the City by the Bay all the way across the continent (eschewing the Straits of Magellan) to set up at the (drum roll, please)
RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR in BROOKLYN! This WEEKEND!
The weather looks to be gorgeous: low-eighties and partly cloudy. Only the most determined New Yorkers (74% of the population) will be able to find fault with that.
The location is fab: right on the East River (in East River State Park, in fact) in Williamsburg’s tony You Can’t Afford It district, or YoCAffI. Might I recommend arriving in style, via the East River Ferry, astride the bow, arms spread like the wings of a majestic bird, all King-of-the-World-like? The boat stops right there, it’s only $1.50 more than the crappy subway, and… AND… for an extra buck, you can bring your bike.
300 vendors. Eric and Annie. Food galore. This Saturday and Sunday, 11–7.
Be there or… go to Fire Island. Or wherever. It’s gonna be a great weekend everywhere.
