You can keep your sugar cone, your waffle cone and for God’s sake, your cup. I was always a fan of the flat bottom “Eat-It-All” cake cone. Yeah. It didn’t compete with the flavor of the main event, and the base of the cone held up, even on the hottest days. No drips, no leaks – just a reservoir of pure ice cream goodness to savor at the very end.
It’s the little things, you know?

Well said my friend!!! This one is great.
I am shocked — SHOCKED! — that John wrote a post about ice cream without giving a shout out to his absolute favorite frozen treat of all time, frozen custard at Not Licked Yet in Fish Creek, Wisc. John’s been rhapsodizing on Not Licked Yet for years, ever since he and Mike Kaufman made a stop there on one of their boys-only road trips.
Of course, we also deeply love Cone E Island, the D.C. ice cream shop owned by our friends Alan and Susan. Visiting the Rubins is like staying with Willie Wonka, as Alan brings out a tray of multiple ice cream containers for dessert. John’s never met one he didn’t like.
