So, it’s last September. Wifey and I are staying in San Francisco, freezing our various organs off one day and go for a long walk down Haight Street, that great street. We end up in my old neighborhood, Hayes Valley, now a tony enclave of million-dollar shoe-tiques. When I was there? Crack hoes who peed in front of our door. Tings, dey change.
Anyway, we took a break at Momi Toby’s café on Laguna, about a block from my old “pad,” as we “cats” and “hipsters” called our “apartments” back “then.” Sat outside until frostbite set in, forcing us indoors like thin-blooded weaklings. But, while we were at our sidewalk table, I looked to my right and drew this:
Yep, definitely inspired by Mr. Paul Madonna (“All Over Coffee”), who I met the week before. Hell of an artist. He’s a free-hander — no pencilling; just straight up Rapidograph pen: ink right on the page — so I thought I’d try my hand at it. Normally my left brain demands pencilling like a li’l Hitler, but what the hey. The wiggly lines are downright charming, don’t you think? No? Hmm. Well….
