It was an honor to be asked to speak at the GANCY member meeting earlier this year.
Every month the Guides Association of New York City invites a guest speaker to talk about subjects the membership might be interested in. These are the folks who do walking tours of the city, food tours, drive-abouts, scooter tours, bike romps, history walks, things like that.
So I tried to regale them with my take on the importance of bars in NYC. Why we need them, the purpose they serve, and a few choice stories about particular places in my book Bars, Taverns, and Dives New Yorkers Love.
The GANYC YouTube link is here if you want to take a look (I start yapping at 11:05).
These things aren’t as fun as talking to someone in person, in, say, a bar, tavern or a dive, but what the hey. It spreads information, and as I said, it was an honor to be invited.
More on the GANYC, what they do and what they offer (it’s pretty interesting if you’re a nerd like me) here.
